Dezeen has announced the Designers of the Year shortlist for this year’s Dezeen Awards, which includes Studio Gang, Fala Atelier, Holloway Li and FOG Architecture.
Our Designers of the Year awards, launched last year, recognise the best emerging and established talent whose innovative work has made a notable impact on the industry across architecture, interiors and design.
This year, we opened nominations to our readers to put forward designers for consideration. We received hundreds of nominations from over 50 different countries across the world, who were then shortlisted by Dezeen’s editorial team.
The 36 shortlisted studios which are in the running for awards across six different Designers of the Year categories, are located across 20 different countries including Nigeria, South Korea, Hong Kong, Germany and Mexico.
The shortlist includes Seoul-based Teo Yang Studio, shortlisted for interior designer of the year, Finnish practice Studio Laurids Gallée, shortlisted for emerging designer of the year and Paris-based product designer Neil Poulton, shortlisted for designer of the year.
American practice Studio Gang recently renovated a former tobacco warehouse for the Univerity of Kentucky and Bangladesh-based Marina Tabassum Architects installed a demountable bamboo house at the Vitra Campus in Germany, are both shortlisted for architect of the year.
Dutch practice Studio Sabine Marcelis has been shortlisted for designer of the year with recent projects spanning an installation featuring four rotating glass pillars for the High Museum of Art in Atlanta and a water fountain made using repurposed onyx stone in Amsterdam.
