Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham blasts team’s kicking game, calls for open tryouts

Have you ever wanted to be a kicker for a college football team?

This might be your lucky day, provided you are a student at Arizona State, or could become one quickly.

The Sun Devils lost to Cincinnati on Saturday by a final score of 24-14, and in the loss kicker Ian Hershey missed a pair of field goal attempts. Hershey missed a 48-yard field goal attempt with under six minutes remaining, which would have cut Cincinnati’s lead to 24-17.

He missed a 41-yard field goal try with under a minute remaining, which again would have cut the Bearcats’ advantage to 24-17.

After the game, Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham blasted the team’s kicking game.

“Our kicking game’s atrocious,” Dillingham said in his postgame press conference. “If you can kick and you’re at Arizona State, email me. We’re going to have kicking tryouts on Monday. So, bring it on. Kicking tryouts Monday, let’s go.”

When pressed on his comments, Dillingham indicated that he was not joking around.

“Yeah, I’m dead serious. We’re going to put it out on our social. We’re going to have a kicking tryout on Monday,” added Dillingham. “We’ve gotta find somebody who can make a field goal.”
