Dallas Wings star is the latest WNBA player to join Unrivaled Basketball League

The list of WNBA stars committing to joining Unrivaled Basketball League continues to grow: on Monday, the league’s official social media account announced that Satou Sabally was the latest addition to Unrivaled.

Sabally, the Dallas Wings forward also known as the Unicorn, averaged 18.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in her fourth WNBA season last year.

She missed the first half of the season recovering from an offseason shoulder injury, but made her return to basketball in time for the Paris Olympics, where she represented Germany in the country’s first-ever Olympic appearance in women’s basketball. She posted 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists in her first game back with Dallas last week.

The announcement comes as part of an elaborate social media rollout that has spanned multiple months — every couple days, a different WNBA star has revealed to be participating in Unrivaled, as part of an effort to build momentum and energy to the league. Widely considered one of the best young players in the game, Sabally is another impactful addition to the league.

What makes the Unrivaled Basketball League unique?

Unrivaled is a brand-new three-on-three basketball league that former University of Connecticut stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart have partnered up to launch. The league will feature 6 teams with 5 players each, and go on for 8 weeks.

Unrivaled is novel for a number of reasons. For one, while games will be played three-on-three, they’ll take place on a compressed full-court rather than a half-court. Salaries are set to begin at $150,000 per year, and all 30 initial players will receive equity.
