How To Style A Living Room With Warm, Golden Tones

There’s nothing like a space bathed in warm yellows, mustards, ochres and deep reds to make you smile when you step through the front door.

Start with a central piece — the couch. It’s all too easy to choose a beige or grey, but the key to setting the tone for this cosy look is being brave and selecting a golden-hued option like the Homebody Modular Sofa in Saffron by Fenton & Fenton.

From there, you’ll want to look for items with a similarly warm, yet muted undertone — too many ‘bright’ furniture pieces will overwhelm the space (reserve these pops of contrasting colour for art and objects). The rich caramels of the Featherston Curl Up Chair from Grazia & Co and the cushions from Citta, Abode, and Hommey are the perfect warm neutral to add to your tonal colour scheme.

Add pops of darker reds and ochres for depth. In our moodboard above, we’ve anchored the room with the Cable Rug in Bisque by Armadillo, this darker hue is also echoed in the Good Vibes Side Table in Mocha by Fenton & Fenton.

Texture is another thing to consider. We love pairing these warm spring tones with smooth blonde timber such as the Molly Coffee Table from Jardan and the Advance Shelving Unit from RJ Living. The Flowerpot VP7 Pendant also adds a fun, shiny element to the space, breaking up the cosy textures in the rug, sofa and armchair.

Finally, add a dash or two of cool colours like blue or  grey, as finishing touches! Blue and yellow sit at opposite sides of the colour wheel, which means they’re complementary to each other. But, you only need the smallest touch of these contrasting cool hues to bring the space together, and offset all of the warm golden tones. Try the Nelly Table Lamp Light in Mist.
