Sha’Carri Richardson is writing the ultimate redemption story in the 2024 Paris Olympics. After being booted off the United States’ track and field team for testing positive for weed ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Richardson is one of the faces of the women’s track team this time around. She put that face on full display as the anchor of the women’s 4x100m relay team on Friday.
The U.S. women took home gold in the 4×100 relay thanks to a fantastic closing burst from Richardson. She turned on the jets in the final leg to put the U.S. on top of the podium, and in the process she provided us with one of the great viral images of these Olympics. First, watch Richardson win the race for the United States here:
Now let’s enjoy the memes.
As Richardson was pulling ahead, she looked over to her right to make sure she was ahead of Great Britain, which took home the silver medal. The face she made while doing so is already iconic.
Richardson had already won a silver medal in the women’s 100 meter dash earlier in the Olympics. Now she has her first Olympic gold medal.
Richardson didn’t do it by herself. Melissa Jefferson, Twanisha Terry, and Gabby Thomas already starred for the gold medal team. The United States’ time of 41.78 seconds took home gold, while Team GB won silver with a time of 41.85.
There have been so many great images during the Paris Olympics, and Richardson just gave us another one.
