Snoop Dogg is the greatest thing to ever happen to the Olympics. There I said it.
To be fair I have said this at least 14 times so far whether it be through various text messages to friends, out loud to my dogs or in my head over and over again. The Olympics in general rule and I am in no way trying to make this anything about the greatest athletes in the world competing for eternal glory, but how did we ever do this without Snoop being a part of it?
In case you were unaware Snoop is basically the official mascot/ambassador for the Olympics and is allowing all of us to live vicariously through him as he enjoys his time in Paris rooting on the Americans. He has been doing commentary, sitting in the stands and is essentially frolicking around the City of Love in the name of Love, Peace and Joy.
Some evidence, in case you have been living under a rock or don’t believe me or are just a hater:
What is this? How did this happen? What was the production meeting like at NBC when someone suggested what is objectively the greatest idea of all time? We need answers.
Snoop is a timeless figure in worldwide, not just American history, so can you imagine what this is like for the athletes and people interacting with him? It must be insane.
Consider when the United States earned their first gold medal of the games during the men’s 4×100 relay. Snoop was right next to Caeleb Dressel’s wife Meghan, Caeleb is the anchor on the team, as the United States won. Baby Dressel was in Meghan’s arms!
Imagine being this kid! Not now! Like when he’s in third grade!
Teacher: August (that is the boy’s name), what did you bring for show and tell?
August: So when I was a baby my Mom held me in her arms while my Dad won a gold medal at the Olympics in Paris and that was cool and Snoop Dogg was there and here is a picture (or maybe a hologram, tbd on future technology)
The moments that Snoop are a part of here are timeless and iconic. They are also happening in ways we could have never expected.
Consider that Monday morning saw Novak Djokovic square off against Rafael Nadal… an insane thing in and of its own right. Snoop was there! Next to Billie Jean King! What!
This is not a simulation. It is real life. And it is glorious.
