Dezeen Showroom: US company Designtex drew on research about how aesthetics affect human emotions to create this dappled upholstery fabric, which forms part of its Joy collection.
Wonder is a polyester-based woven textile featuring an abstract pattern inspired by wildflower fields, with slightly contrasting yarns adding depth to the coloured shapes.
Like all of the fabrics in the Joy collection, it intends to uplift people’s spirits and was based on research into how our brains process colour, form and texture.
“We all want to feel good in the spaces where we spend most of our time,” said Designtex executive design director Sara Balderi. “Materials are the first thing in a space that people come in contact with and there are a lot of opportunities to make a difference through them.”
The Wonder fabric is made of a blend of polyester, acrylic and nylon yarn and is made from 60 per cent recycled content.
Designtex describes the textile as durable and easy to maintain and says it is suitable for use in various interiors including healthcare, education, workplace and hospitality settings.
